Petroliana Collecting Might Be The Way To Go!
The first time I saw the word petroliana was on a financial statement and next to the asset was a
fairly large dollar amount to indicate value.
My next step was to pronounce the word a few times to get it to the
point to where at least I thought it sounded right.
Finally I asked myself,
Petroliana, what is it?
Going to my
trusted sources, Google and wikipdeia, I quickly learned that Petroliana is a
category of collectibles.
Amazing
are the pictures of items and the majority are related to gas stations or the petroleum industry.
Petroliana
memorabilia will include a variety of items such as old gas pumps, posters
and fuel advertisements, a huge assortment of enamel or tin signs, oil cans,
and even old road maps. It’s all pretty amazing
stuff to me.
The great thing is that petroliana collectors have some really
neat man cave items that would make every man proud to own, while their spouse might
think otherwise. Not only did I learn
that these are items I wish I already collected over the years and owned, but what
surprised me most are the values some of these items will bring in the
collector market today.
Before you head
out the door to the local flea market or swap and shop, what you need to know
is that these items can be a little pricey.
So be prepared to bring the big check book, or a wad of cash, if you
plan to go shopping for petroliana.
The saying, “It takes money to make money” is true, and depending
just how deep you plan to go with this new investment strategy you better think
twice before you clean out your money market or savings accounts. Sizeable profits can be made, but collecting
or investing in petroliana is an acquired ability based on knowledge of the
item, the current market, and demand.
Like any market or investment, supply and demand are key components to
value, but if you have the items and there is demand, then a reasonable petroliana
investment gain might be possible.
Some people will think it's crazy to think about putting hard earned dollars into a piece of old metal that
will hang on the wall. Crazy, maybe,
crazy all the way to the bank.
Good luck and let us know if you decide to take the plunge.
Be Safe Out There.
